  • Visiting the Library

The First Program library is open from 8 a.m onward. Grades K-2 have scheduled classes on a weekly basis. Students also have opportunities, with teacher permission, to visit the library as needed.

The library is on an open, flexible schedule for all 3rd graders. The librarian collaborates with classroom teachers to plan, teach and assess research and literature based units. Lessons take place in both the library and the classroom and scheduled in context of the unit. In addition, the library is open all day to 3rd graders needing to check out books. Teachers have determined times in their schedule for students to exchange books as needed.
  • Circulation

First Program circulation guidelines are as follows:
    • K: 1 book/class for 2 weeks
    • 1: 1 book/class for 2 weeks; increases to 2 book/class in January
    • 2: 2 books/class for 2 weeks
    • 3: 3 books/library visit for 2 weeks; max 10 books total
If students are not quite finished enjoying a book, they can renew the books by asking their librarians, and then keep them two additional weeks.

Dalton families are always welcome to borrow additional books to enjoy. Simply contact your librarians, Jordy Samuels & Christine Nassar.

In the event books are lost or damaged, families will be required to pay the replacement cost for the items. The replacement cost consists of the purchase price.
  • Cross Divisional Check Out

First Program students who wish to check out materials that are only available through the middle school library must have parental permission. The request should be made in writing to the librarians.  Upon receipt of the request, librarians will contact parents to have a conversation regarding the level and/or content of the material to ensure understanding of the appropriateness for the student.

  • After School

All first program students are welcome to visit the library after school and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  After 3:30pm, parents and guardians may borrow books for students using a library sign out sheet available on the circulation desk.
