This past Monday, Boys Varsity Lacrosse faced off against Poly Prep on Randall’s Island in the team’s second league game. The cold conditions of playing in forty degree weather did not stop the Tigers from pulling out an 11-10 win, bringing the team’s league record to 1-1 after a hard fought loss to Trinity last week in overtime.

The Tigers took an early multiple goal lead over Poly Prep in the first quarter. Throughout the rest of the game Poly and Dalton traded goal-for-goal until Poly had a string of goals, cutting Dalton’s lead to one. With just over two minutes left in regulation, the Tigers won the face-off and maintained possession until thirty seconds were left before making one final defensive stand-off to secure the victory.

Evan Wolpert (‘20) had a sensational game, scoring multiple goals and dominating the face-off game. Ethan Hellman (‘19) and Nick Lipsher (‘19) found success scoring and helped the Tigers lead the offensive attack. Goalie Ezra Shin (‘19) made a series of saves at the end of the fourth quarter as Poly was closing in on the Tigers.

On Wednesday, Girls Varsity Lacrosse hosted Nightingale-Bamford in a successful outing. After a disappointing loss to Trinity to open league competition, the team battled back and won 12-8 against Nightingale-Bamford, thanks to strong communication and time of possession. The Tigers controlled the ball for the majority of the game, allowing their offense to create opportunities for the twelve goals. Kara Siegel (‘19) continued her impressive performances from last season in a multiple goal game while Lily Rodriguez (‘21) scored her first goal of her varsity career.

Speaking on the game, Jamie Gelman (‘19) mentioned how the team focused on keeping the tempo high. “We remembered that Coach Galvin had placed an emphasis on sprinting to the ball and marking our opponent, which created more chances for us. Our defense did a great job of crashing in on their scorers on our half of the field and doubling up on shooters.”
