High School Students Create Films for First Program En Español

This week, a beautiful moment of learning and community happened between Big Dalton and First Program. Mr. San Juan’s High School Cinema Class paid a special visit to Maestra Nivia's House 21 Spanish class, where second graders were treated to an inspiring and educational film experience — all en español!
The High School students have been working hard on creating short films around important social justice themes such as composting and how our community can be more inclusive — essential values for building a kinder and more sustainable world. High School students didn't just write and film the stories; they also acted, directed, and added music, showcasing their creativity and commitment.

The second graders in House 21 were an eager and enthusiastic audience. Watching films in Spanish created a natural, immersive environment where language learning came alive. After the screenings, High School students led a thoughtful Q&A session, asking the younger students questions to encourage critical thinking in Spanish. This exchange allowed second graders to practice their listening and speaking skills with real, meaningful interaction.

To show their appreciation, the second graders surprised their guests with a joyful performance of a parranda — a lively traditional Puerto Rican song full of rhythm and gratitude. The musical thank-you was a heartwarming way to end this language celebration of learning, art, and community.

This memorable visit wasn't just about movies — it was about building bridges through language, culture, and kindness.

¡Gracias a todos los estudiantes por compartir su talento y su español con tanto corazón!
