GIRLS VARSITY BASKETBALL had a successful week with consecutive wins against Holy Child, Riverdale, and Fieldston. On Monday, the team triumphed over Holy Child 45-42. Then on Wednesday, the team took the trek to Riverdale to bring home the win in its first league game of the season by a score of 36-24. There was a large crowd present to watch Friday’s Fieldston game, and GVB did not disappoint, beating Fieldston 59-38. At tip-off, forward Elise Bousquette (’18) tipped the ball to Captain Olivia Tanzman (’16), who passed to center Alana Eiland (’17) for two points in under five seconds into the game. The play set the tone for the entire evening, as Fieldston was unable to match Dalton’s fast-paced tempo. These three wins continued GVB’s undefeated streak.
WRESTLING beat Rye Country Day away on Monday. Off of pins by Tareq Saghie (‘16), Casey Schneider (‘17), Clay Hamilton (17), and Garrett Basso (‘18), the team was propelled to a 52-31 win against the Wildcats. The team looked to extend its undefeated record against Long Island Lutheran on Friday, but unfortunately, the match was cancelled.
This week, GIRLS JV BASKETBALL started its season off on a strong note, picking up wins in both of its two league games. On Wednesday, the team journeyed to Riverdale to play the Falcons. Dalton was propelled to a win by a number of steals by guard Rain Condie (’18) and aggressive drives to the hoop by Zoe Fleishaker (’18). Then on Friday, with great overall offense and defense by Jocelyn Mayer (’18), Dalton clinched the home win.
BOYS JV BASKETBALL went 0-2 on the week, losing to both Riverdale and Fieldston, 40-46 and 47-49 respectively. Against Riverdale on Wednesday, Dalton fell early but made a big comeback in the third quarter led by starting center Alberto Bitar (‘18) and starting guard Julian Schlesinger (‘18). Despite this run, Riverdale quieted the crowd by regaining control of the game. Similarly, on Friday against Fieldston, Dalton gave away an early lead. But, led by starting guard Jared Feldman (‘18), Dalton made a comeback, chipping away at Fieldston’s early lead. However, this bid would come up just short, leading to a Dalton loss by just a basket.
VARSITY SQUASH had a successful week, sweeping Riverdale in its opening match of the season.
JV SQUASH suffered two losses in its opening week of competition. Starting the season against Poly Prep, the team lost all seven of its matches. Away at Hackley, it won three of the seven games.
This week SWIMMING showed improvement. While the team did not win in its dual meets against Fieldston on Wednesday and The Masters School on Friday, it proved to be a formidable opponent.
