GIRLS VARSITY BASKETBALL began the week with an unfortunate start: a loss of starting point guard Ema Schumer (‘18), who is injured with a concussion. On Wednesday, the team faced Poly Prep in a decisive home game that would, in the end, determine the winner of this year’s Ivy Preparatory League. The game denoted Dalton’s greatest loss yet, as they suffered a demoralizing defeat. However, on Friday night, GVB appeared to be a rejuvenated team, triumphing in a victorious win over Horace Mann. Strong ball movement, paired with Caleigh Ryan (‘18) and Elise Bousquette (‘18)’s palpable chemistry propelled the Tigers to a 52-44 win. Charlotte Leone (‘19) exhibited great deftness through beating her defender down the court for two consecutive layups in the final minutes of the game. Dalton is currently ranked second place in the league.
Despite a tough loss to Poly Prep on Wednesday, WRESTLING placed 2nd at the Ivy Preparatory League Championships. 5 Dalton wrestlers participated in the championship match and 4 out of the 5, Jake Intrater (’19), Casey Schneider (’17), Faulkner Wilson (’16), and Tareq Saghie (’16), took first place in their respective weight classes. Coach Travis Brown was very excited, as this is the first time in recent Dalton history that the team took 2nd place at Ivy’s. Looking ahead, the team looks forward to continuing its success at States next Saturday.
After a hard-to-swallow loss against Poly Prep earlier in the week, BOYS VARSITY BASKETBALL defeated Horace Mann on Friday, finishing the week off strong with a twenty-one point home victory, 53-32. The end of the season stretch will be pivotal in the boys’ quest to qualify for States. BVB will face off against Lycee Francais, Riverdale, and Collegiate this upcoming week.
BOYS JV BASKETBALL went 1-1 this week, losing to Poly Prep 49-33 and annihilating Horace Mann, 53-22. Against Horace Mann, Dalton won by a large margin with crucial scoring by Alberto Bitar (‘18) Brian Cromwell (‘19), and Tristan Sollecito (‘19), who made crucial buckets off of the bench to score a career-high 11 points, shooting a magnificent 100% (4-4) from the field.
GIRLS JV BASKETBALL had an even week. On Wednesday, the team lost to Poly Prep — the only team they have lost to thus far this season — yet they triumphed over Grace Church on Friday.
VARSITY SQUASH struggled this week, losing to both Poly Prep and Horace Mann.
JV SQUASH had tremendous success this week in competition. The team came away with a hard-fought victory against Hackley on Monday (4-3), highlighted by a strong showing by Aidan Shepardson (‘19). The team faced off against Fieldston in a night game on Tuesday, winning six games to one.
SWIMMING had another tough week, ultimately losing to Poly Prep despite an overall head to head meet.
