The Dalton Tigers won the D3 Plate at the 2016 US High School Team National Squash Championships in Berwyn, PA this past weekend. It was Dalton’s first time competing in High School Nationals. Strong play and outstanding spirit resulted in 14 individual match victories and a hard-fought 2-2 team record.
Jacob Ellen ’16 won every game of his four match victories. Daelum Mawji '18 won four matches including a tremendous, come-from-behind, five-game victory. Reggie Brewster '17 surrendered only two games in four match victories. Playing through injuries, Roland Brewster '16 won his last two matches, resulting in Dalton team triumphs over perennial squash powers Haverford and Milton. Jahnavi Bhavsar and Ben Goldstein played long, competitive matches against higher-rated opponents and contributed soundly to the team’s success. Leo Ricci '17 and Jason Friedman '18, playing in their first squash tournaments, performed well against highly ranked foes. All team members displayed competitive fire, tireless effort, and exceptional camaraderie.
There was tremendous parent support throughout the weekend. Tournament officials, peer coaches, and opposing teams noted and complimented Dalton’s spirit and sportsmanship. In sum, the 2016 US High School Team National Squash Championships was a fabulous experience for Dalton’s scholar/athletes and for Dalton community members. Go Tigers!
