Julia Fox, Lana Stern and Miya Carpenter, third grade students from House 25, raised more money than they had imagined for the Wild and Free Foundation and Eco-Schools by creating and selling A Doodle Book. Beginning in October, they started creating a coloring book during their choice time. They wanted to teach other kids how to draw. Upon completing their independent project in February, they planned to give the books away. However, once they finished the book and people started offering them money to buy it, they were inspired to sell the books and give the proceeds to charity. These students are active members of the Little Dalton Wildlife Club, which was discussing endangered rhinos. They wondered if they could help the rhinos. Hoping to raise just $30, they were surprised to raise a total of $11,000. They sold these books in the lobby of their building for $1.75. Many people were moved by their cause and donated.
The children gave the proceeds raised by their efforts to the Little Dalton Wildlife Club's charity, Eco-Schools. This organization is a member of the National Wildlife Federation dedicated to protecting wildlife and habitat and inspiring the future conservationists as well as the Wild and Free Foundation. Its mission is to safeguard and support wildlife and habitat.
These young students have much to be proud of - helping to make the world a better place!
