7th Grade students explored books about African American experiences written by African American authors.
In January, 7th grade English classes visited the Middle School Library and explored the current publishing condition for young people in the United States. A Slide Show demonstrated the disparity between the U.S. population by race/ethnicity and number of books featuring people of color characters and written by authors of color. The students selected from a list of outstanding books by African American authors on the African American experiences and will reconvene in February to share their observation regarding Dreams Deferred or Fulfilled and the personal and societal factors for fulfilling of one's dreams.
