Third Graders Experience Many "Firsts" During the First Week of School
A "first" field trip for the class of 2026. The weather cooperated and every third grade house trekked up the Hudson to visit the Center for the Urban River at Beczak in Yonkers.
The students observed Hudson River wildlife, such as striped bass, blue crabs, American eels, shrimp and turtles. They learned about where the Hudson flows from, and some new vocabulary words like “estuaries” and “brackish.” Everyone had a chance to put on waders and seine with a partner. One house caught 6 different species and 119 creatures in total! Everyone ate a picnic lunch and played games in the yard. A great "first" trip.
