Boys Varsity Basketball has not lost since before winter break, pulling out several exciting victories over league and non-league rivals. This week was no different, as the team took on St. Ann's and Horace Mann.

Having won its last seven games, Boys Varsity Basketball came into this week looking to extend that winning streak. The team did just that, making quick work of St. Ann’s in a 60-49 victory on Monday and holding off Horace Mann 57-49 in an away game on Wednesday.
Against St. Ann’s, Max Peponis ‘17 and Alberto Bitar ‘18 had stellar rebounding numbers, giving Dalton many second chance baskets, leading to Dalton being up by 20 at half. Forward Jacob Rose '17 says, "Monday was a good opportunity to work off some of the rust from our time off [during midterms].
At Horace Mann in Wednesday, a series of clutch three pointers in the second half by Peter Gardner ‘18, Ryan Kotin ‘18 and Rose allowed Dalton to pull away from Horace Mann. Jream Henderson ‘17 played excellent defense all game, containing Horace Mann’s guards from running the team’s offense. Though Dalton beat Horace Mann 62-43 back in December, Horace Mann came out with a new intensity on Wednesday. But it wasn’t enough for the win against Dalton.
Boys Varsity Basketball has had an impressive first half of the season, currently boasting an 11-4 overall record and a 6-2 league record, tied for second in the Ivy Preparatory League. The team has only lost in league to first-place Fieldston and Hackley.
The team also holds a resounding 17-point blowout win over Trinity at Trinity’s homecoming two weeks ago and a win over traditional powerhouse Poly Prep. The Tigers boast a versatile offense: Gardner and Kotin provide a strong perimeter shooting attack, co-captain Henderson can beat teams in transition, and co-captain Peponis has shown an assertiveness under the basket, giving Dalton a rebounding advantage many times this year.
On Friday, Dalton hosts rival Trinity on Warren Hines Night. The game promises to be a highly contested one, with Trinity entering the game at third place in the Ivy Preparatory League.
This year’s varsity team has shown an ability to pull out victories in tight games, which very well may put the Tigers in playoff contention as the regular season comes to a close and teams prepare for the NYSAIS Tournament.
