First Program Students Compete in a World Language Virtual Video Contest
In celebration of world language learning and world language month, the New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers (NYSAFLT) hosted a Virtual Video Contest. Four Dalton First Program students submitted recordings to enter the NYSAFLT Virtual Video Contest with the help of their Spanish teacher, Marissa Coulehan.
World language teachers were able to promote the work that their students do in world language classrooms by showcasing them in a state-wide competition! There were six categories in all. First-grader Maxwell Lincoln won second place for reciting a poem in Spanish called "La Cucaracha y El Grillo". First-grader Ella Kirschner won second place for her authentic speaking task in Spanish called Cooking Show. Kindergartner Chloe Yaeger danced her way to third place with a medley of merengue, flamenco y tango. Kindergartner Izzy Canada sang a beautiful traditional song from Puerto Rico called "El coquí".
