Secrets and Magic in High School History

Professional magician and Dalton parent, Steve Cohen, visited the senior elective on "World Religions" led by Jennifer Stolper Muenz and Kevin Slick on October 4. Mr. Cohen amazed the class with an historical survey of magic, and he talked about the value and gravity of the "secret" in the world of magicians.
Mr. Cohen also encouraged the class to see magic as a kind of "burlesque of science" and asked the class to think about the fascination with magic in the modern world. Perhaps it's magic's ability to re-enchant the world and to invite wonder that speaks to its enduring appeal.
