Dalton Seniors Chat with International Rescue Committee

Tara Clerkin, Senior Coordinator at International Rescue Committee (IRC), visited seniors in the elective “Thinking Globally, Acting Locally” to discuss climate resilience and the organization’s sustainable development initiatives.
After leading a presentation at last year’s High School History Day, IRC returned to Dalton to continue the conversation about today’s migration and climate refugee crises.

During her visit, Ms. Clerkin shared important information and statistics on migrants, refugees, and displaced communities whose lives have been unsettled due to natural disasters and climate-related conflicts. Ms. Clerkin explained how students can get involved along with IRC’s climate-smart programming on clear-cut methods that organizations, private companies, and even governing bodies can adopt to improve risk reduction.

Thank you to Ms. Clerkin and the IRC for their continued commitment to protecting our world’s most vulnerable communities and teaching us all how to go forth unafraid for a more sustainable world.
