Latin Students Take the National Etymology Exam

Ten Latin students, ranging from 9th to 11th grade, took the National Etymology Exam. This was Dalton’s first time taking the NEE, a 45-minute test designed to test a student's ability to handle both Latin and Greek derivatives and their usage in the English language.
This test is based on English vocabulary words that are derived from Latin and Greek, with emphasis on academic and SAT vocabulary words.  In preparation for the test, students have been practicing daily in their Latin classes, learning Latin vocabulary and seeing derivatives in the English language that we use daily. Questions ranged from finding the Latin roots that English words are derived from, to word meanings.  Students will be notified about awards in February.
