6th Grade Students Learn About Assyrian Art and Warfare in Virtual Discussion

Ms. Dobbins’s 6th grade Social Studies classes learned about Assyrian Art and Warfare in a discussion on art history and archeology.
Dr. Michelle Marcus, Dalton’s Art History and Museum Programs Director, presented on Assyrian art and propaganda in the ancient palace of Nimrud. The students were asked to look for ways in which the Assyrians demonstrated their power through artwork. After the presentation, students looked for comparisons between the themes of the Assyrian wall reliefs and inscriptions. Dr. Neil Goldberg, Dalton teacher and Archaeologist, talked about Assyrian warfare. Students examined how the ancient empire came to power...and how it eventually crumbled. Students engaged in excellent discussions about all things Assyrian!
