The Alphabet Soup of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Dalton’s Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Dr. Domonic Rollins led the first of a five part training seminar on Tuesday, January 12 to equip parents with the tools and language to navigate conversations around race, diversity, equity, and inclusion; to help parents connect with their children on this topic, and to learn how to integrate and reinforce the values taught at Dalton through meaningful dialogue at home.
The evening focused on expanding parents’ literacy around equity, giving them language and definitions to use in conversations with their children. From there we proceeded to outline a basic identity development model that enables parents to empower their children as they begin to develop their own identities (e.g., their understanding of their race, gender, sexuality, to name a few) and help them build a positive sense of self and an appreciation for other members of their community.
