DEI hosts "What is Racial Identity Development" Parent Workshop

Thank you to those who were able to join us for our What is Racial Identity Development parent workshop on Tuesday, February 9.
The goal of this session was to share some information about racial identity development and offer Dalton parents an opportunity to engage one another about the topic while building community. To view the recorded session please click on the video accompanying this story. Below are resources shared in the workshop that you may find useful.

Videos:
  • Part of Being 12: The Year Everything Changes: It's no secret that being 12 years old can be tough. At 12, kids shed layers, test new roles, and transform before our eyes as they explore what kind of adult they want to be.
  • Multiracial American Voices: Identity: For much of the nation’s history, America has discussed race in the singular form. But the language of race is changing. With the rise of interracial couples, combined with a more accepting society, America’s multiracial population has grown at three times the rate of the general population since the beginning of the millennium.
