Aly is a Senior Partner based in McKinsey’s New York office, serving financial institutions globally. He has led the firm’s Private Equity & Principal Investors Practice for the Americas as well as the Strategy & Corporate Finance Practice. In private equity and principal investing, he leads McKinsey’s thinking on the outlook for the asset class. He has worked in McKinsey’s San Francisco, London, and Paris offices, and at the McKinsey Global Institute.
Aly is the President of the Board of Trustees. He has been a Dalton Trustee for 8 years, serving on the Finance and DEI sub-committees. He also led the development of Dalton's current strategic plan. He is the incoming Chair of the Board of GiveDirectly. He serves on the Yale Law School Fund Board and the Board of Overseers of the International Rescue Committee. He also serves on the Board of the Aziz Jehan Begum Trust for the Blind, the preeminent institution in Pakistan dedicated to providing educational, vocational, and career development support to the blind. He is a permanent member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Aly’s past experience includes work at the war-crimes tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in the Office of the Prosecutor, at the World Bank in Washington, DC, and with a leading human-rights lawyer, advising the prime minister of Pakistan on advancing gender equality.
Aly graduated from Dartmouth College as valedictorian of his class and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society as a sophomore. He was elected by his class to serve on the Dartmouth College alumni council and currently serves on the college President’s Campaign Executive Committee. Aly earned his JD from Yale Law School with honors. He has three children – one who graduated from Dalton and two who are high school students.
