Dalton high school students Cooper Hartog '24, Hillary Silver '24, and Jesse Eick '22 served as facilitators for a discussion with Susannah Heschel '69, the Eli M. Black Distinguished Professor of Jewish Studies at Dartmouth College, on Wednesday, April 28.
Heschel’s scholarship focuses on Jewish and Protestant thought during the 19th and 20th centuries, including the history of biblical scholarship, Jewish scholarship on Islam, and the history of antisemitism.

The students posed a long list of questions centered on antisemitism, activism, and Jewish history.

Heschel is the recipient of four honorary doctorates from universities in the United States, Canada, and Germany and the author of numerous publications including, Abraham Geiger and the Jewish Jesus, which won a National Jewish Book Award. In addition, she is the recipient of grants from the Carnegie Foundation, Ford Foundation, and a yearlong Rockefeller fellowship at the National Humanities Center.

During Wednesday's Q&A, Heschel expressed excitement to reunite with her Dalton science teacher, Judy Geller '51.
