Dr. Rodney Glasgow Serves as Keynote Speaker at 2021 Dalton Conference

Now in its 11th year, the annual Dalton Conference “2020: What Did We Learn? How Will We Continue to Move Forward?”, took place on May 8.
The Dalton Conference gave time and space to consider the progress we've made, the roadblocks we’ve encountered, and the support we need to make tangible progress. Attendees from 26 NYC independent schools made public commitments to become anti-racist institutions.

During the year, schools re-examined nearly every aspect of their work—their curricula and hiring practices, rules for student conduct and disciplinary procedures; traditions, and admissions policies—and developed long lists of initiatives.

Head of School Jim Best provided opening remarks, and Dr. Rodney Glasgow served as the keynote speaker for the event.

Glasgow, a noted speaker, facilitator, trainer, and activist in diversity, equity, and social justice, provided a passionate speech to an audience of more than 360 attendees. An active member of several organizations, Glasgow is one of the founding members and now Chair of the National Association of Independent School’s annual Student Diversity Leadership Conference, a 20-year-old training ground drawing over 1,500 high school students nationwide. In addition, last year, he launched the National Diversity Practitioners Institute, a summer intensive for diversity practitioners.

A highlight of the day was the HS panel where students shared their thoughtful views on actions their schools can take to move forward.
