6th Grade Students Recognized in Writing Contests This Month

This month, three sixth-graders received honors for their writing in the following categories: poetry, creative writing, and an informational essay.
Mika Higgins-Woo's '27 poem, "Pesto," earned honorable mention recognition in the New York Library Society's Young Writers Awards (YWA) Contest. In that same competition, Cole Stopnik's '27 essay, “Greek Mythology Surrounds Us," was awarded an honorable mention as well.

The YWA honors excellent writing by young members of the Library community. A panel of notable authors judge each year's entries. Both students will be recognized at a virtual ceremony on May 25.

Iris Mou '27 was also recognized this month and chosen as a winner in Scholastic Scope’s National Robin Hood Contest. Her creative prose depicted a scene continuing the adventures of the legendary hero.
