Mark Robinson ’74 & Raymond B. Smaltz, III ’74 Participate in Alumni Conversation Series

Mark Robinson ’74 and Raymond B. Smaltz, III ’74, authors of Place of Privilege, spoke to the Dalton community on Monday, December 13, in the first Alumni Conversation Series of the school year.
In conversation with Dalton students Jusani Morris ’22 and Rebecca Wasserman ’22, the alumni shared their stories and experiences.

Mark and Ray were among some of the earliest young Black men to graduate from Dalton. They detailed how the School changed their lives and how their lives changed the School. Throughout the nearly 90-minute conversation, the two alumni reminisced in great detail about the challenges they faced at school and in the community and how those hurdles shaped their futures. They talked about the big influences in their lives, the experience of being in a primarily white environment, and the impact Dalton had on their lives’ trajectories.

Jusani and Rebecca posed their own questions to Mark and Raymond as well as queries submitted by Dalton community members.
