HS Future Problem Solvers Advance to International Competition
Dalton High School competitors earned exciting outcomes and awards for their Global Issues Problem Solving action plans on the topic “Mining” at the New York State Future Problem Solving (FPS) Bowl in March.
Students applied the six-step problem-solving method to a future scenario navigating challenges related to mining and wrote an action plan to address them. After competing in the state bowl, external judges evaluated and scored their written work.
Future Problem Solvers follow a six-step approach to problem-solving: 1. Identify Challenges Related to the Topic or Future Scene 2. Select an Underlying Problem 3. Produce Solution Ideas to Address the Underlying Problem 4. Generate and Select Criteria to Evaluate Solution Ideas 5. Evaluate Solution Ideas to Determine the Better Action Plan 6. Develop an Action Plan
The HS students earned top rankings in the state competition and have been invited to advance to the hybrid FPS International Competition.
