Dalton Students Collect Two More Accolades from Scope Magazine
Two Dalton 6th graders won Scholastic Scope Magazine monthly writing contests and received accolades for their submissions last May. Current 7th graders Shelby James '28 and Maiya Kang '28 became the fifth and sixth Dalton students in 2021-22 to earn this distinction from the national writing contest.
Shelby wrote a three-paragraph article for Scope’s “You Write It Contest.” Editorial Director of the magazine Kristin Lewis called Shelby’s piece about reporter Zhoriél Tapo “informative and filled with text evidence.”
Maiya won the magazine’s “The Experiment Contest” featured in the May 2022 issue. Regarding Maiya’s work, Lewis stated, “Your notes on Dr. Heidegger’s observations and conclusions were incredibly wise. We especially enjoyed your thoughtful points regarding human nature.” Maya’s prize was a novel titled The 1000-Year-Old Boy by Ross Welford.
