Dalton squared off against almost 2,500 of the country’s top scholastic chess players and nearly 1,000 teams, earning top honors in several grade-level awards across Kindergarten to 12th Grade.
The 11th Grade team won their grade’s national championship for the 10th straight year, continuing a streak that began in 2nd Grade, while the K-12 Blitz Team (Gus Huston ‘24, Max Mottola ‘25, Ryan Peterson ‘24, William Safranek ‘26, and Nate Shuman ‘24) captured the Blitz National Championship.
Led by Head Coach and Women International Master (WIM) Beatriz Marinello, Dalton’s coaching staff featured a world-class lineup of Grandmaster Mac Molner, Grandmaster Alex Lenderman, International Master Oladapo Abu, Chess Expert Nelson Dunn, Chess Expert Adia Onyago, and Chess Expert Eric Balk.
Dalton high school parents gave speeches and advised First Program and Middle School parents on the last day before departing, while the High School students mentored their younger counterparts.
In addition to chess, the students made holiday cards for a children’s hospital. What a great weekend full of community building and celebrating chess successes!
