Despite poor weather, Homecoming 2023 was a whirlwind of fun and camaraderie. JV and Varsity tennis began the festivities with two competitive matches, and then 4th-6th Grade students kicked off Friday’s events with a packed volleyball clinic. Students, families, alumni, faculty, and staff celebrated Dalton athletes and showed their school spirit Friday as they cheered on the volleyball teams and joined a spirited pep rally. 
 
Friday evening also included a moving Hall of Fame induction ceremony in the Boyers Gymnasium. Six alums were inducted into the David Dunkel Athletics Hall of Fame – Jenny Mancino '05, Bobby Weinstein '05, Corey Benson '07, Jamaal Taylor '07, Marisa Kefalidis '08, and Jillian Williams ‘11. The event was punctuated by a stirring speech by Mr. Dunkel, namesake of the Hall of Fame, who captivated the audience with tales of past Dalton success, including the time the boy's basketball team beat the Estonian National team.
 
Tropical Storm Ophelia forced a reschedule of Saturday events and soccer games but the community stayed flexible as plans shifted. The wind and rain let up enough Saturday to allow the varsity football team to compete in a rousing game that came right down to the final whistle. Dalton student-athletes showed their prowess by winning every Homecoming game that was played. Beyond the success on the courts and field, the whole Dalton community demonstrated its spirit and pride through sportsmanship, enthusiasm for the teams, and the impromptu singing of the school song.
