Dalton Debate Sweeps Ridge Debates in Best-Ever Team Result
Dalton’s High School debate teams competed at the Ridge Tournament, where in an unprecedented feat, they swept the final rounds of multiple events simultaneously.
In the varsity parliamentary debate division, Zach Berg '24, Vihaan Kotahwala '25, Austin Gordon '26, and Campbell Langdon '26 all won their semifinal rounds, resulting in an all-Dalton final. In the novice parliamentary division, Iris Mou '27, Maddie Fine '27, Chase Blumenfeld '27, and Christopher Schaaf '27 also won their semifinal rounds, resulting in another all-Dalton final. All were named co-champions of their respective divisions. In varsity parliamentary debate, Ashwin Ranjan ‘24, Will Foley ‘24, Annika Maduraperuma '26, and Shreya Ranjan ‘26 all advanced into the quarterfinal. Shreya, Zach, and Annika were also individually honored as the first, second, and third-place speakers respectively. In novice parliamentary debate, Maddie Fine ‘27 was individually honored as the top speaker. Competing in varsity public forum debate, Anysa Bickici ‘25 and Arav Mehta ‘25 advanced to the octofinal round, earning them a silver bid to the nationwide Tournament of Champions to be held in the spring.
The Dalton parliamentary debate team is now ranked #2 nationally and #1 on the East Coast.
