Ninth Grade History Teachers Meet with Renowned Scholar of West African History

Renowned scholar of West African history, David Conrad, joined the 9th grade history teaching team in conversation on best practices for teaching the history of medieval and early modern West Africa.
Professor Conrad has produced several noted books on West African history, and he is a leading translator and editor of various versions of Sundiata. The 9th grade curriculum begins with a close reading of Sundiata: An Epic of Old Mali, and the meeting with Professor Conrad focused on how the existing curriculum can evolve to incorporate new scholarly approaches and findings. It was a conversation the department plans to continue in order to promote student learning in this area.
