Dalton represented at the Raffles Community Leaders Forum in Singapore

This past March, five Dalton seniors and one faculty chaperone represented Dalton at the inaugural Raffle Community Leaders Forum and the Raffles International Conference on Education in Singapore. Dalton was the only school from the United States invited to participate at this international gathering of community youth leaders and educators from the Asian Pacific region. Over the course of five days, the student leaders participated in one of the nine Special Interest Groups (Animal Welfare, Body Image and Esteem Issues of Young Women, Civic Engagement for Youth, Impact of Poverty on Children, Juvenile Delinquency, Understanding the Intellectually Disabled, Educational Opportunities, Improving Ethnic Relations among Students, and Meeting the Needs of Our Elderly). They conducted research and discussions, as well as speaking with relevant organizations, prominent local/regional activists, and other stakeholders on these issues to gather information and views. During the final day of the forum, our Dalton students were selected by their peers to be their respective SIGs’ representative speakers for the recommendations and proposals for youth action to the dignitaries and educators at the Raffles International Conference on Education. During their stay in Singapore, our students also had a chance to visit this wonderful city-state’s points of interests, to experience its diversity of people and their cultures, in addition to learning about their peers’ views and practices on education and society. Thanks to our gracious hosts from the Raffles Junior College, the Dalton delegation had a wonderful experience during their short stay in Singapore. For our Dalton students, it was hard to leave their peers behind to return to New York. As one Dalton delegate put it: “It was a life changing experience.” For more information about Dalton’s future participation at the Raffles Community Leaders Forum and possible program collaborations with Raffles Junior College in Singapore, please email Mr. Lee.
