Girls' Cross Country Wins Championship - A Dalton First
Congratulations to the Girls' Cross Country team for winning its first-ever Ivy League championship. The team, which was initiated seven years ago, scored 52 points on Friday, October 29, 2010, barely edging Horace Mann (56) and Hackley (57) in a very tight finish.
Senior captains Talia Calnek-Sugin and Jillian Williams came in 1-2 with Malina Buturovic finishing sixth. All three earned All-Ivy honors. In cross country, scoring is done by adding the places of the top 5 runners, so equally important was Nikki Lohr's 17th place effort and Harriet Fisher's 26th place finish. Fisher cut 43 seconds off of her previous best time for the 2.5-mile course. Sonja Hagemeier finished five seconds behind her in 27th place. The Tigers, who finished second earlier in the season in the Mayor's Cup race, will compete next Saturday morning in the NYSAIS championship at Van Cortlandt Park.
