6th Grade Greek Festival - 2011

A fabulous festival, paying homage to classical Greek culture, the 6th grade's traditional Greek Festival again emersed students the spectrum of arts. This integrated curricular experience served to synthesize new meaning in the hearts and minds of the students. By wearing chitons, dancing, acting, creating architectural models, playing instruments and singing, the students experienced the very culture that is widely held  responsible for the birth of western civilization.
A long-held tradition at Dalton, the Greek festival is a prime example of the importance of tradition combined with integrated curriculum. These multi-faceted, multi-disciplinary experiences go much further than wrote memorization to develop deep knowledge. Alumna Anne Tolsoi, wrote these words in the Daltonian in 1945,"Our school is held together and remembered for its traditions ... from the Greek festival to Graduation Day. Our customs are an important part of Dalton and Daltonites, and will long be remembered by all of us."
