Budget Passed and New Government Positions Announced

On Wednesday, September 28, at the annual Student Government Budget Assembly, the High School government ceremoniously and unanimously passed new budget expenditures for the 2011-12 academic year. Student Government President, Darshan Desai also announced several new government leadership positions including Chief of Staff, Athletic Liaison/s and Fundraising Assistant/s.
Desai reasoned, "Overall, I think these three positions will help ensure Government can be as effective as possible this year; student government has a lot of responsibilities and it is too easy to become distracted with the minutia/administrative tasks, so hopefully these positions will better enable Student Government to combat larger issues and ensure that Dalton students are satisfied."

Desai described the new positions as follows:
  • Chief of Staff: Helps with the administrative duties of the president in addition to aiding with larger government initiatives. The Chief of Staff will ensure the President does not have to solely focus on administrating club and committees and has sufficient time to work on other initiatives to change the school for the better.
  • Athletic Liaisons:  The Athletic Liaisons will have similar roles as those of the Parents Association Liaisons and the Alumni Liaisons, in that they will be responsible for reporting updates on the Athletic Department. Specifically next year, they will play a large role in the process of improving communication between the academic and athletic departments. The position requires organization and the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with both parties.
  • Fundraising Assistants:  With a goal of raising $2200 this year, Student Government will need the aid of fundraising assistants to meet the goal. They will work with the Vice President to sell the apparel/goods Government will sell throughout the year.
