Dalton Competes and Gains Experience at National Science Bowl
The Dalton Middle School National Science Bowl Team recently competed in the National Science Bowl National Finals at a 5-day competition in Washington DC. The U.S. Department of Energy National Science Bowl is a nationwide academic competition that tests students' knowledge in all areas of science. High school and middle school students are quizzed in a fast paced question-and-answer format similar to Jeopardy.
The 8th grade team members, coached by science and technology teacher Will Findley, met teams of the top 160 U.S. science students from nearly all 50 states, and competed based on their knowledge of facts in Life Sciences, Earth Science, General Science, Physical Science, Mathematics and Energy Science. They also built and raced a Lithium battery-powered car. Though the rookie team did not win a National Award, they learned an enormous amount. The Dalton team qualified for the National Event by winning the NOBCChE /DOE Northeast Regional Science Bowl, the regional qualifier for the National event." The National Science Bowl's competition for middle school students involves more than 5,000 students.
The National Science Bowl is the only science competition in the United States sponsored by a federal agency. Thanks to parents Heidi Lipton (Team manager) and Marc Tessier-Lavigne (Parent Coach) for supporting Dalton’s first-ever National Science Bowl event.
