Dalton's Streak Continues in the Greater NY Scholastic Chess Championships
38 students from Dalton crossed the river into Brooklyn to play in the Greater NYC Scholastic Chess Championships on Sunday, January 12, returning with three team trophies and a good collection of individual trophies as well.
This is a very difficult tournament; the children have to play five serious games in one very long day. However, the Dalton Tigers rose to the occasion. Our small but powerful Elementary team took clear first in their section, while our K-1 team earned the second place trophy and our Primary team took home a third place trophy in their respective sections.
In addition to the gratifying work of coaching our dedicated, talented and hardworking students, it is also a great pleasure seeing how the children, parents and coaches form an all-inclusive supporting bond at these tension-filled tournaments. Everyone is willing to step up for each and every need that occurs during the day, whether it is escorting someone else’s child from the playing hall, bringing back a lunch, or notifying the coaches of a problem in the tournament room. The Dalton Chess Team is truly a big umbrella team.
