FP Students Select Organizations to Receive Penny Harvest Funds
The Penny Harvest grants have been chosen. After the fall Common Cents penny collection, the students in House 37 delved into the heart of the program by forming Philanthropy Roundtables to study community problems and to determine which organizations could benefit from our grants. Mary Smeltzer and her students in House 37 researched and presented five different charities to FP students.
The students of each House in First Program voted for the organizations whose work was most meaningful to them. First Program students selected three organizations: Amazon Conservation Association which seeks to conserve the biodiversity of areas of Peru and Bolivia; the American Red Cross for their ongoing Hurricane Sandy relief and support of military families; and Charity: Water, which brings clean water to people in developing nations. Each organization will receive $500 of the $1500.
