Dalton Alumnus Named Salutatorian at Princeton

Dalton alumnus Alexander Iriza, Class of 2010, has been named salutatorian for Princeton University's Class of 2014. Per Princeton tradition, he will give his speech in Latin at Commencement on June 3.  According to the Princeton Review, Alexander's "fascination with Roman history sparked his interest in Latin, which he began studying in 9th grade."
At college, Alexander concentrated in math, and is pursuing certificates in applied and computational mathematics and applications of computing. He also took 10 computer science courses as an undergraduate. The article says that Alexander's parents sparked his interest in math by giving him math workbooks when he was a toddler.  A "middle school math coach introduced him to the world of math outside the classroom -- competitions, camps and weekend problem sessions." One of the math competitions brought Alex to the Princeton campus where he said he was, "inspired by the brilliant students I met, and I basically fell in love with the place."  Amit Singer, a mathematics professor said, "Alex strikes me as one of the most gifted students that I have ever met." Alex is also passionate about music; he began studying the violin at age 6 and joined the Princeton University Sinfonia sophomore year.

After a summer internship as a software developer, Alex will return to Princeton in the fall to pursue a master's in computer science.
