Faculty/Staff Engage in Courageous Conversations and Security Awareness
The Dalton School faculty and staff opened the 2014-15 academic year by devoting four days to essential professional development in the areas of equity/diversity and security/safety.
Equity and Diversity consultant Glenn Singleton of Pacific Educational Group led multi-day workshops for faculty and staff that encouraged attendees to appreciate their racial consciousness. This work will continue through the leadership of the Administrative Council and the school’s emerging Equity and Diversity Team. The goal is to engage, sustain and deepen the courageous conversations at Dalton around race, equity and diversity in the pursuit of serving students and providing an outstanding education.
Additionally, faculty and staff participated in security workshops provided by T&M Protection Resources. The training included emergency/crisis preparedness and informed attendees of security updates on each campus. Trainers referenced best practices relative to lockdown and evacuation drills and discussed practical strategies for situation-specific incidents.
The professional development days were positive and productive. Dalton is a more aware and secure community in light of our concentrated and collective work.
