Middle School Student Government Creates a Winter Fair
When Olivia Munnell '19 and Sammi Pohly '19 ran for Student Government President last Spring, one plank of their political platform, based on popular demand, was to organize a Spring Fair for Middle School students. On Friday, December 12, 2014, after careful collaboration, negotiating and planning for months to make various agreements with division directors, advisors, teachers, and other adults responsible for schedule and space, they delivered on their promise.
Along with their hardworking fellow Student Government representatives, they created a beautiful and fun-filled event, wrapped in a blue, white and silver winter package, full of hand-made carnival games and other fun carnival themed activities.
Advisors and administrators were very complimentary of the students and their leadership, admitting that putting this event together was no easy task. It required incredible motivation, flexibility, communication, and organizational and motivational skills. While they had originally dreamed of a Spring Fair, reminiscent of their beloved First Program Spring Fair, the students' good sense and flexibility dictated that a Winter Fair would be more feasible. It was courageous leadership, combined with incredible teamwork that made the Winter Fair a success. Ultimately Olivia and Sammi had the sheer grit, integrity and patience in order to keep their campaign promise.
