A Stellar Day for the Dalton Tigers Cross Country Team
The NYC Mayor's Cup brings together the best athletes from the five bouroughs. The Dalton Tigers Cross Country team had a historic day at this year's NYC Mayor's Cup.
Dylan Fine '16 became the fourth Daltonian to win the varsity race, beating the second place finisher by 47 seconds. Sophomores Oliver Effron and Peter Gardner were the next Dalton finishers coming in 11th and 13th. Elias Oakes '16 and Tomas Vonderheide '17 were next coming in 16th and 17th giving the Tigers the five finishers necessary to place second overall in the race the team's best finish ever. Nate Zelter '19 and Max Gardner '16 rounded out the varsity seven coming in 23rd and 31st. The team scored 55 points, falling only to St. Peter's and besting 48 other teams in their race.
The girls varsity race followed and the Tigers also finished second matching the best finish in school history. Maisie Fisher '17 was the first Daltonian to cross the line coming in 7th place. She was followed by Lily Steinman '18 in 22nd place and freshman Hadley Benjamin '19 in 26th. Gabi Siegel '16 was 29th and Anjali Iyer '17 was 38th rounding out the first five. Eliana Weinstein '17 and Audrey McDermott '16 finished off the varsity team. The girls team finished with 122 points coming in four points ahead of Port Richmond for second.
