HS Robotics Win Big at FIRST Tech Challenge Championships
Dalton's high school robotics competed with teams from across New York and Connecticut in the FIRST Tech Challenge NYC championship this past weekend. Three Dalton teams competed, and members of the fourth team (which recently competed in and won at another championship event) volunteered to help support the event. Out of the over 120 teams in NYC region, only 10 qualified for the Superregional level, and three are Dalton teams.
Team 9371 (General Relativity) went undefeated in their qualifying matches but was upset in the first round of the playoffs. However, they scored big in the judged portion of the competition, winning the Innovate Award for having the most creative solution to the challenge and placing for the PTC Design Award given for excellence in engineering.
Team 9372 (Standard Model) used their extending placement arm to make it all the way to the playoff finals, where they narrowly lost in three games.
Team 4174 (Atomic Theory) was a runner-up for the Connect Award, representing their commitment to the engineering community. They were recognized in particular for their leadership in the Million Oyster project, an attempt to reseed New York waterways with oysters.
In the end, both Standard Model and General Relativity qualified to compete in the East Coast Superregional competition, which includes 72 teams from Maine to Virginia and represents the top 10% of FTC teams around the world.
Please join us in congratulating the robotics teams on their most successful season yet and wishing them luck at the Superregional competition in mid-March!
