Konigsberg was a powerhouse down the stretch, winning his match 3-2 and propelling the Dalton Varsity squad to its first win of the 2016 season. Konigsberg won the first set 6-1, followed by a 4-6 loss, and secured the win with a decisive 10-6 victory in the super tiebreaker set.
VARSITY BASEBALL went 1-1 this week, highlighted by a comeback victory over Hackley on Wednesday. Cortland Perry (’16) started against Hackley, holding the Hornets to only four runs going into the seventh inning with Dalton trailing by one run. But the Tigers roared back: Max Peponis (’17) and Spencer Kersh (’16) started a rally of hits in the final inning, and Dalton eked out a 5-4 win. TRACK AND FIELD traveled to Poly Prep this week for its third Ivy League Developmental Meet of the season. Facing Horace Mann, Poly, and Trinity, several members of the team performed at record levels, making their 70+ teammates proud. Jordan Chambers (‘17) and Janelle Benjamin (‘16) placed fourth in the boys and girls 100 meter race, respectively. Charlotte Leone (‘19) placed seventh in the 200 meter, an impressive feat for the first-year track runner. JV BASEBALL had two tough outings this past week. After losing on a walk-off single to Hackley on Wednesday, the boys could not come back from an early deficit against Trinity. Dalton lost to Trinity by a score of 13-9, despite Koby Bernstein (‘19) leading the comeback with three big hits.
The depths of SOFTBALL’s bench were put to the test this week. With five players unable to play due to injuries, notably the team’s pitcher Alison Comite (‘18), many players rose to the occasion to make plays, including Caleigh Ryan (‘18), Zoë Fleishaker (‘18), and Izzy Rubin (‘19) who stepped in as interim pitchers during Wednesday’s game against Hackley. Despite these efforts, Dalton lost by double digits. Yet the defeat did not discourage the team; to the contrary, an energized Tigers took the field on Friday determined to defeat school rival Trinity. The team did just that, triumphing over Trinity 16-8.

Many of GOLF’s veteran golfers were absent from the team’s match against Poly Prep on Thursday due to the Worlds Robotics Competition in St. Louis. A young and less experienced lineup, the Tigers struggled to surmount Poly. Although Dalton lost, the team managed to shoot its lowest aggregate yet this season, possibly due to the relative level of difficulty of Poly’s home course, Dyker Beach, which has a slope of 116, by far the lowest in difficulty the team has faced so far this season.
