Our K-5 team, consisting of Dylan Challenger, Davyn DeJongh, Gus Huston, Veda Safranek, and Nate Shuman, placed 1st in the country out of 25 highly competitive teams. The K-1 and K-3 teams placed 2nd in the country among a field of over 25 teams in each category, with the K-3 team finishing just a half point behind the 1st place team. Additionally, the two-person team of Gus Huston and Nate Shuman brought home a 9th place K-6 Blitz trophy for Dalton, garnering enough points for top honors with only two players while all other teams competed with four players.
In addition to outstanding team performances, Dalton players earned individual honors as follows: Bowe Siegelson (18th, K-1), Max Silvers (18th, K-3), Alexander Weinberg (24th, K-3) Louisa Huston (2nd in U600, K-3), Gus Huston (6th place, K-5, 6th place K-6 Blitz), Nate Shuman (8th place, K-5, 10th place K-6 Blitz).
The continuation of Dalton’s legacy of consistently winning top awards in the country was recognized over the weekend in coverage by US Chess (
www.uschess.org and @USChess), as well as mentions in the New York Times and on NPR. The team has been led by David McEnulty for many years and was supported this weekend by a talented group of coaches, including GM Miron Sher, WGM Alla Grinfeld, WIM Beatriz Marinello, Master Gerald Times and accomplished Chess Coach Elizabeth
Spiegel.
Thanks to the Dalton School and community as well as the dedicated parents who make this success possible.
