Daelum Mawji '18, a member of Dalton's Varsity Squash team, gave a stellar performance in professional competition at the 2016 U.S. Junior Open at Yale over the winter recess. He earned first place nationally in his division. Seeded 7th, Daelum finished 4th out of 128 players, handily defeating the #2 seed in 3 games along the way. He is off to the British Junior Open with the U.S. National Team.
Daelum has competed nationally for six years. He has been a member of the US Junior National Team and represented the USA internationally for the past four. The British Junior Open is one of the most prestigious junior squash events in the world. The event is by invitation only for the top players. 412 players from thirty-three nations will compete.
The 11 player Varsity Squash team boasts a record of 4-1 overall and 2-1 in league play, so far this season. According to Coach Dave Bradford, four varsity players - Reginald Brewster '17, Ben Goldstein, '18, Jahnavi Bhavsar '19, and Auggie Bhavsar '21 - are also nationally ranked. There are eight players on JV team, which has a current record of 1-0.
Coach Bradford reports, "We are off to a very good start, and the (Varsity) team is very excited to resume league play and return to Nationals this season."
