Girls BasketballThe Girls Varsity Basketball team is coming off one of their most successful seasons ever winning both the Ivy League title and the NYSAIS State Tournament. Despite graduating some of the top players in the program's history, the team looks to maintain its traditionally high expectations with the goal of competing for another Ivy League title and playoff run. Senior Charlotte Leone, who has been on the varsity since her freshman year, spoke about the goals for this year: “I think we have a good chance to defend our title this season. I don’t know how our team will respond to losing last year’s seniors, so our seniors have to remain positive this year, and really lead the team.” The team opens up the season against on Grace Church on Thursday, November 29.
SquashDalton Varsity Squash is coming off a successful season last year finishing second place in the league, their best finish in the history of the program. The team features multiple players who are nationally ranked among the top ten. Despite losing their number one player from last year's team, they are confident they can compete for the Ivy League title this year. “We came up a little short last year, but I think we have a great chance to win the league this year,” said senior Jonah Eick. The team kicks their season off against Riverdale on Wednesday, December 5.
Swimming
Following a year when they set numerous school records, the Dalton Varsity Swimming team is hoping for a season worthy of a banner. Featuring both returning record breakers and steadily improving swimmers, the team has the goal of a spot at the podium at the Ivy Championships in February, a feat no Dalton Swim team has accomplished, and to place well at the new NYSAIS Championships at the end of February. Indoor Track
This year marks the return of a sport at Dalton: the Indoor Track team. Led by seniors Zach Love and Ilana Cuello-Wolfe, the squad practices at the Armory Track & Field Center twice a week and runs in Central Park the other three days. “It’s good to have track during the winter now,” says junior Ari Eaton, “We used to be kind of caught off guard when the spring season started, but we will be better prepared this year, and hopefully we can win some meets in the meantime.” The team will participate in several NYSAIS meets throughout the winter season before the Ivy Championships on February 14.
Wrestling
The Wrestling team will be looking to continue staking their claim among the top teams in the Ivy League. The Tigers are lead by Jake Intrater, in his fourth year on the team and a consistent championship contender, and NYSAIS state champion Elie Farah. Third-year wrestler Jamaal Spence said that “practices have been great so far and we are refining the things we’ve already been good at as a team.” Spence is coming off a great season in his own right impressing teammates and coaches. The team is in the process of determining appropriate weight class assignments and are excited for the start of the season on Saturday, December 1 at the Lexington Holiday Invitational Wrestling Tournament.
