October is the "Month of Giving" at First Program

October is the month of giving all in an effort to raise money for local charities and organizations. First Program students are taking part in a variety of community projects.

"Little Dalton Coins for Change" was launched in a House 91 assembly. The Human Rights Club presented basic standards of human behavior. Bags were distributed to each student for coin collections. House 37 will research possible organizations to donate the funds. First Program students will vote on the organization they would like to see receive the collection.

All first graders will participate in the annual First Grade Walk-a-thon. Each first grade House will walk around the block ten times. Some of the money that the children raise through this walk-a-thon will help support the Dalton Ujima Project The rest of the money will be donated to one or more charities.

Third grade students welcomed a visitor from Homes for the Homeless. They learned this organization serves many homeless families who live in New York City's shelter system, and more than 150 apply each day. Over 400 families with children live in the Homes for the Homeless American Family Inn at any given time. Our third graders donated costumes so homeless children could enjoy a festive Halloween.

Please continue to help support these wonderful endeavors.
