Dalton Confucius Classroom Hosts Chinese Character Bee
The Confucius Classroom at the Dalton School held its third annual Young China Scholar contest making the 2015 competition a Chinese Character Bee. After an intensive 45 minutes, Alec Chen '21, last year’s defending champion, won the first place prize again, along with Roland Brewster '16 who earned second place, and Gabriel Wong '20, who placed third.
Each year this annual Chinese Knowledge Bowl individual competition aims at promoting better and deeper understanding of Chinese history, culture, geography, and arts for all Dalton Students. Director of Dalton’s Confucius Classroom Mona Zhao and Middle School Librarian and faculty adviser of Asian Culture Club Roxanne Feldman are faculty advisers of the program.
Students from kindergarten through Grade 12 participated in the competition. Contestants used iPads to write out the characters, which were projected onto a big screen. Families, friends, and interested faculty members came to cheer on the contestants. All participants were awarded Chinese-themed gifts. A rematch is planned for the Spring.
