Dalton's Robotics Teams Qualify to Compete in Upcoming Tournaments
The Dalton HS & MS Robotics teams have been hard at work. Recently, Dalton's HS General Relativity robotics team won second place at the Lynbrook, NY qualifier and our HS Quantum Mechanics team travelled to Pace University in Pleasantville, NY to compete in the Hudson Valley Regional Championship. There, they won the robot game and took home the award for robot design, qualifying to compete at the East Coast Super Regional competition in Scranton, PA against the 72 best teams from Maine to Virginia. The other three high school teams will compete for the chance to join them there on February 28 at the New York City Championship.
While the HS students were preparing for the championships, they took the time to host and run the Manhattan FLL (First Lego League) robotics competition for Middle School students. Twenty-two middle school teams descended on Dalton from around the city and competed with Lego robots in a full day competition on Saturday, February 20. According to those in attendance, the event was an unqualified success. It was the only robotics competition in NYC to be run by high school students.
Both of Dalton's middle school teams, AfterPop, and Thinking Outside the Base competed in this 'home' event. Out of the 22 teams, they had 2nd and 3rd highest average scores in robot performance. They both also won Robot Design awards, 1st Place for Programming and 1st Place for Strategy. Winning these awards qualifies them to represent Dalton at the FIRST Lego League NYC Championships at the Javits Center on Saturday, March 12.
Please join us in congratulating all of Dalton's robotics students on their accomplishments, and applauding their gracious professionalism. We wish them luck in their upcoming tournaments.
