For our final parent interview, the first graders enjoyed a special outing to Big Dalton! House 35 parent, Lisa Brizzolara, teaches science on 89th Street and invited us to join her 9th grade biology class for a special activity. After a discussion about what we know and wonder about starfish, the first graders worked with the older students to dissect the sea creatures.
We got to see the starfish's mouth, stomach and other parts of the digestive tract, as well as the reproductive organs and the "skeletal" structure on the inside walls. Ask your child what s/he noticed in the dissection. Afterward, we interviewed Lisa for our parent job study. It was fun to work with the "big kids" on such a cool project and also interview a parent who is a faculty member. We were also excited to complete our final interview.
