Students have been working individually for several weeks to analyze a literary text, compare and contrast it to other literature and authors already discussed, situate the work in a historical, social, political, and economic context, and relate the work to their own lives.

During the event, the students shared the results of their exploration with invited Spanish-speakers from the Dalton community. In 10 minute one-on-one sessions, students spoke eloquently in Spanish about their research. Dalton community members who served as conversation partners included Judy Calixto, Josie Díaz, Graciela España, Lori Langer de Ramirez, Natalie Sánchez, Carlos San Juan, Michele Viard-Andre, Lisa Waller, Millie Zeno. Student/presenters included: Julian Freiberg '17, Davis Haupt '17, Anjali Iyer '17, Emily Mei '17, Olivia Romano '17, Rachel Sznajderman '17 and Tomás Vonderheide '17.

After the presentations, participants feasted on some of the foods discussed in the literary pieces. Everyone came away with a deeper understanding of the role of food and feminism in a variety of Spanish-language literary works. Kudos to Ms. Madinaveitia and her students on a job well done!
