Day 5 The Crested Grebe, botanical native plants, restoration of wetlands service learning and Lake Wanaka viticulture

Catching up on our past two days here first is our fifth day.
We began with a lovely lecture from a local naturalist engaged with securing the nesting habitat of a marginalize local waterfowl, the crested grebe.   After a slide presentation and lecture, we were able to observe innovative breeding habitats created in the finest tradition of Kiwi ingenuity.  Next was an exploration of native plant species and local efforts in the Lake Wanaka area to restore native plants to the local ecosystem.  This was followed by our service learning component helping to reclaim a small wetland area with both clearing and planting.  We finished our day with a visit to the Rippon Vineyard guided by the owner.
